It’s been just over a week since Daniel turned one and I am still reeling in all the excitement from what transpired. With this birthday approaching I honestly had no idea what we wanted to do. One day I wanted a party, then a cake smash, at one stage a cake smash party. I was all over the show. So much so that still one week before the time, I was still indecisive. Farren and I have been friends for what seems like a lifetime. Although Cute & Chic was recently born – I’ve always known Farren to be the party planner friend. You know those friends? The ones who have all these ideas and just know where to find everything, and always manage crazy things in super crazy deadlines? Well, I feel the need to reintroduce her as I have met a whole new side of her. The event planner side. Who are you and what have you done with my friend?

I literally gave her my theme – “Wheels on the bus” and ideas around the cake smash. And Farren gave this theme life! She arranged our “Cake Smash Studio” right in our living room. Sent me ideas for snacks according to theme, made cake toppers for cupcakes. Decor. Signage. Glasses and decanters. Arranged party packs. Made runners and cute little gifts. All I did was bake the bus cake! She made having a party on a budget a breeze. And I – the host, could actually enjoy the party. You know what I mean? Sometimes we are so busy perfecting everything that we forget to be there and be presentcute and chic

Meet Farren Foutie the beauty and brains behind Cute and Chic Events Styling:

Farren is a determined, positive and enthusiastic creative. She is an absolute party nut and believes in celebrating every occasion. Her love for parties, entertaining and turning any occasion into a stylish celebration, together with the birth of her son, this ignited her passion to start Cute and Chic earlier this year. She aims to use this passion to turn your visions into budget friendly memorable realities.

Farren works a full time job, has a 21 month old son and is happily married to husband Marc, who is her rock and part of a wonderful support system that helps her be the superwoman she is. She finds balance by being an organised person at heart. When asked for tips for anyone wanting to start their own business she shared that there would never be a right time to start. But that taking the leap of faith is the only way to know what you are really capable of.

Most important information to have handy when you using Cute and Chic Events:

When I started working with Farren I was hesitant to share my budget (aren’t we all), how much is too much or too little? But actually it is the most crucial part of planning a party. By having a budget you will know exactly where you need to and want to spend money. By getting this out of the way up front it makes it so much easier for Farren (your planner) to know exactly what she can do for you. It can also eliminate a lot of the stress. Here here!

Tips for moms on a budget from Cute and Chic:
  • Eliminate venue costs – where possible try to have a home party, although sometimes this can be a schlep it can save a lot of costs too!
  • Keep it intimate – when inviting try to keep your list to your nearest and dearest, costs often escalate when inviting more adults as more substantial food is involved
  • Time – try to keep your party in the afternoon in order to keep the food simple. This way cake and tea can be served for the adults
  • Party packs – if you are setting up a dessert or sweet table, don’t fill up your party bags and the kids can fill bags with sweets from the table.
  • Cake – try to bake your own birthday cake
  • Games – for older kids old fashioned games like pass the parcel and musical chairs are fun, and cost effective

I used all of these tips and boy did they save us, as opposed to other parties we have had. Thanks Cute and Chic for your absolute professional and full encompassing service. Daniel had a day to remember and it didn’t break the bank!
